Hi, PayPal have started to run commercials in movie theaters in Germany and interestingly enough they pronounce their brand name as pay pal which is a ‘hybrid’, a mix of standard English pronunciation and German pronunciation of an English word. How do you pronounce the brand name?[YSaerTTEW443543]

I listened carefully to your recording ( 4 or 5 times ) but I didn’t hear anything strange in the way you suggested " PayPal " was pronounced in the advertisements. I use PayPal regularly when I am selling on Ebay and sometimes discuss its negative points with my friends . We are all native English speakers ( BritEng) and we all say PayPal with a slight upward inflection on the second syllable. We don’t put any stress on the first syllable.
I think of PayPal as meaning ’ the friend ( pal ) who helps you to pay '. (I don’t actually think that it is a pal who helps me pay, I hasten to add.)
Maybe I am missing something in the recording ? HH.
