hoorawe

What do you mean by the word “hoor awe”?

For eg:
You are being hoorawed by a 14 year old girl.

I think you must have misheard, Imsriram.

Being harrowed by a girl?

The word HOORAWED is used in the True Grit movie with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. Using subtitles while watching the movie, Matt Damon says to Bridges, more than once, “you’ve been hoorawed by a 14 year old girl.” That’s how it’s spelled in the subtitle.

Circumstances are that Damon thinks the 14 year old girl is influencing Bridges - akin to hoodwink, but instead uses the word “hoorawed.” You kinda get the idea, but the exact meaning isn’t there.

Looked for about 1/2 hour on the internet - for old words, unusual words, any way I could think of to put it - to find the definition. Always get “hooray” or a variation of that.

So where’d the people who do the subtitle of that movie get the word HOORAWED and what’s it mean???

Thanks for any help. Hate when I can’t find the answer to stuff like this.

Yes, ‘hoorawed’ is slang. It could mean either ‘cheered’ or ‘loudly ridiculed’ depending on the context and the way it is said. It is a variation of ‘hurrah’.

Where’d you find that definition?? ALl I ever got was a variation of horray, nothing about being ridiculed.

It is a personal observation. Many laudatory exclamations can be turned to sarcasm by tone of voice, and few are entered in dictionaries.
