There are many types of music in the world today. Why do we need music? Is the traditional music of a country more important than the international music that is heard everywhere else?

Music is as old as history itself. Historical evidence shows convincingly that primitive people used to have their own music. They used to make primitive musical instruments such as drum out of animal hides, or they used to practice their own type of music in special occasions and rituals . Music has integrated with our life. A world without music would be monotonous and dull.

Music is a way through which we can express our feelings. Many musical pieces of great composers were written according to their life situation at that time. Some portray grief of losing their beloved ones, and some happiness of enjoyable moments of their lives. The number of musical pieces that were composed at a particular political or economic situation are also overwhelming. These facts bring us to the point that music is an inseparable part of human life, as it holds individual feelings within itself.

Although there are a variety types of music throughout the world, one general classification is dividing it into two categories of traditional and international. Traditional music is defined as the one which is engaged with the feeling of the society from which it is originated; therefore, it is an absolute representative of that countries culture, beliefs, and traditions . The international music; on the other hand, has something to offer to the entire world. It includes messages of freedom and liberty, equality , and it fights against discriminations in the world. According to the mentioned definitions, while some believe that traditional music’s value outweighs the international one, others hold the opposite opinion. The first group argue that each person has an instinct feeling for his country ,people, and traditions. In other words, traditional music is what people are grown up and living with. So it is the more important type. On the other side, the other group mention that we are at the threshold of a single world culture. Hardly are there any barriers between countries and their beliefs. They argue that music is the only international tool which bonds the people of the entire globe together; therefore, it is the superior one.

Drawing a conclusion out of the aforementioned discussion, I believe international music is more important, for its international desired effects we have seen so far. Music has left its fingerprints in many critical global situations, such as war and natural calamities. Through music and its impressive worldwide effects , large amounts of money have been collected at time of need. I wish history transfers positive effects of today’s music to the following generations.
