Hi everyone! My name´s Madalena and and I’m an English teacher in Portugal. I’m really looking forward to improve my English here! I really like to speak, even if is a written chat, but here in Portugal is quite difficult to find someone able or available to spare some time just speaking English. Here, I hope to find someone to talk to Please I really want to speak and maybe I will learn more english words.
Dear Madalena,
Thanks a lot for joining our forum. It’s great to have an English teacher from Portugal on board. Please tell me more about your job. How many students are there in your classroom and what kind of materials do you use?
Talk to you soon,

Well… here in Portugal the professional situation for teachers is not the best one, I mean, we have a huge number od graduated teachers but no place in the official schools. I work in two places: I teach english in a primary school and also teach in a private school - Wall Street Institute - you may have heard of it. In the second one the majority of the students are adults so sometimes is quite a big change when I leave the kids’ classroom but I really like my Job.
Thanks for your attention
Madalena
Hi Madalena
I’m Mario , a cuban living in United states. I agree 100% with you , there in Cuba I studied English, but I could not become fluent in speech until I spent more than 2 years in this country, USA . Practicing every day is the best way for fluency. I still making some mistakes because any language is a life career, specially when it is not your mother tongue. Besides, Spanish and English are so different , even though they have almost the same alphabet and so many similar words. That situation sometimes confuses me more than helps me, for instance when it comes to streess n similar words . It was a great help to me listening pronunciation course on CDs, and even radio and TV in English. But the most useful thing is every day-talking with my co-workers and with anybody anywhere I go.
So, I’m Here to share and ‘‘talk’’ . I think we can help each other.
Mario
Thank You for the help… my problem with English is vocabulary, I mean, is not a problem but I’m concerned with the seek for new words… to express myself clearly without getting stuck you know but if I continue searching and practicing I believe that I will improve.
By the way I don´t speak Spanish, I speak Portuguese. They are a little similar but also very different. But it’s Ok. There in the USA must be great to live, isn´t it? And yes I agree that the best way to improve is to be in a Native country but once that’s not possible at the moment I have to search for other ways to do it!
Thanks for the message,
hope to speak to you soon
