I’m from Beijing, China. And now I’m trying to improve my English, especially Writing & Listening. I found that this site is very helpful to improve my English. And the persons here are from different countries, it makes me very excited to communicate with persons with different background. I wanna realize varied cultures. I’ve watching the teleplay Prison Break shown on FOX, U.S. And I’m very interested in things about Germany, since I like auto ,BMW, Benz, VW etc. I’ve learnt a little German, but very limited.
If I made any mistakes in Writing, please point it out.

is it OK if I call you like this? It’s good to meet you here on this forum. I have never been to China but my brother used to live with a girl from Taiwan and he once spent a month or so there. I China must be an amazing country with so many people and there has been much talk about your economy.
Anyway, I wanted to ask what type of Internet connection you are using. Do you use the computer pool at your university or do you have a connection at home? How many Internet users in China have DSL or other broad band connections?

The Internet connection I use depends where I am. In the lab, we use an LAN to connect withthe Education network. At somes places on campus, we use wireless, 802.11x. At home I use ADSL. And sometimes I also use GPRS, but its speed is so low.
There are sereval big computer pools at our Uni. And most of the students have their own PC. They can connect to the Internet in their dorm. In China, there are about 111 million persons who use the Internet. More than 60% use broadband connections.

Hi rEDgHOST, I think must apologize for calling your Chinaman in my previous post, I remember learning this word in some movie or so but then checked out its meaning and it turned out that it is an offensive term. Sorry man, no offense intented. It’s just that your nickname is a bit difficult to type and also to remember. Anyway, I was really surprised to hear that you have 111 million people online in China. Hey, here in Germany lots of people are now using the internet but we will never reach your numbers because our population is smaller than 100 million ;-).
You say you also use GPRS sometimes but it’s slow. What about UMTS? Is that a technology that’s becoming popular in China? I somewhere read that China has also the largest number of mobile phone users in the world. Is that true? I have been thinking about switching from DSL to UMTS, that would give me a great deal of freedom. I could get a laptop and go online whereever I am (at least here in Germany). But I’m afraid that the connection will be to slow and too instable. Maybe this will change in a few years though.
Can you tell me more about your study? I’m also a student or I used to be one. I have taken a year off, doing various jobs to earn a living so I can be independent of my parents. I studied business administration for about 2 years and then I had some family trouble, my father wants to me to take over his company but I have other plans and so I spend a lot of time online talking to all kinds of people. How long do you still have to study until you’re finished? What are the job prospects in your profession?

Nowadays, our mobile network is 2G or 2.5G, not 3G. But the 3G network has been set up in many cities, and we can use it in a few months. And the technology we use is TD-SCDMA, WCDMA. I’d like to know when there’s a 3G network in German. What’s it like? And what’s the cellphone like?
The mobile phone users in China reach a number of 377 million. It’s indeed the largest number.
About my study, I’ll finish it in 2years. Then I’ll go to work. I want to work in a German company, like BOSCH, BMW, etc. I like the attitude of Germans towards work, very scrupulous, right? Maybe I’ll have a chance to get to Germany. And what do you Germans think about BOSCH or BMW? Which German company do you think is the best one?

You seem to know pretty much about mobile phone networks, do you? I understand that 3G stands for third generation network and as far as I know the second (faster) version of UMTS is part of that technology? I’ve just scanned a text about 3G in Wikipedia and it says that Japan was the first country to introduce 3G. Where and how have you learned about these technologies? I would like to learn more about them too.
Regarding German companies I think this is a very long story and I don’t know where to start. At the moment lots of people in Germany are out of work because many German companies move their production to other countries where the employees are more flexible and work for less money than the Germans. I think your economy is growing faster than the German economy because you have more growth potential. Although the unemployment rate in Germany is regarded as high, lots of people still live much better than the rest of the world but usually the Germans don’t see it that way and they complain about globalization. I think in China and other countries there is a different concept of values. For example, learning and studying is much more important to many Asians than it is to Europeans. In Germany many young people don’t think they should study hard because they argue that there not enough jobs anyway. I know that many good programmers in companies like Microsoft are from Asia and not from west European countries. So if you are a good engineer you probably have good chances to get a job in a German company. What do your parents think about your plans? Do you have any brothers and sisters? What do they do?

To be honest, I’m not very familiar to the technology of mobile phone. I know only some simple concepts. Everyone should know a little, since we use the phones.
I think the word Wikipedia is not English, right? Is it German? What does it mean?
About my plans. My parents always agree with me. And I make decisions myself.
I don’t have any brothers or sisters. You know the population in China is large, we have administered the family planning for many years. The family planning, it means that one family has only one child.
And about the study. Yes, Chinese students usually think studying is very important. But not all the students have that concept. The rural students often study hard while the urban ones do not. And there are so many students in rural areas. If the ones in rural don’t study hard they may stay in rural or even in mountainous areas for all their lives.
