What’s the meaning of ‘He is anything but retired’ ? It means he is willing to do anything except retired? Am I right? Also, would you mind giving an another example for this structure of English? Thanks in advance.

Moreover, Christmas Day is coming soon. How will you guys celebrate it? For me, I’d like to say ‘Happy Christmas’ to my friends at least even though I’ll have a big plan to finish around the holiday.

It could be either of two things:

  1. He is still working – he literally is not retired.

  2. He is officially retired – he no longer has a job – but he is still active.

This is based on the belief (of some) that retirement leads to a life of laziness/rest, as opposed to an active life.
