Having Begun

Hi there!
Is it ok to start a sentence with this kind of structure “Having begun his career Mr. Philips became a great journalist.” If not, how would you start it? and why?

Thanks in advance

“Having begun his career Mr. Philips became a great journalist.”

Having BEGAN his career. This is PAST tense. Something that has already happened.

Oops!

This should read: 'Having begun’ Here you need the past participle after ‘having’.

Hi Serzige,

Your construction is fine. The only point to remember is that the participle phrase at the beginning ‘having begun’ should have the same subject as the one in the following sentence. And this is what happens in your sentence:

Having begun (Mr Philips) his career, Mr Philips became …
Having answered (I) your question, I would like to …

Alan

Thank you Alan…I really got confused when I saw Kitosdad’s post (I apreciate your help KITOSDAD, though). It’s funny the way you ended the post.

Thanks again!
