Has technology made the world a better place to live?

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Technology has made the world a better place to live. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

An ongoing debate exists as to whether or not the technology has made the world a better place to live. I will explain the basis of this statement below.

First of all, if it were not for the development of the technology, we would not be able to multiply the quantity and quality of our resources, build better housing, communicate and travel easier, search information simplier, and so forth.

Namely, the progress of the tecnology makes that we can eat more amount and variety of food; we can live in safer places; we can get in contact with our acquantainces, traveling as fast as the transportation system is allowed to; we can meet our acquaintances without having to move from our home or work-place, due to the use of the Internet; and we can establish new relationships and look for information by connecting to the web.

Secondly, since the advancement in the technological field, the machines replace the human work force, in order to leave the decision-making to humans. Although, the more sophisticated the technology, the higher the unemployment rates, and the lower the health conditions. The former is because only high-qualified people are employed, whereas the latter is due to stress and other health diseases associated with the high use of tecnology.

Finally, the progression of the technology implies more contamination. There is air pollution that comes from the greenhouse emissions of vehicles and factories. Furthermore, lots and lots of lands are exploited to build more pollutant industries, as well as natural habitats are destroyed and become wastelands.

In conclusion, the existence of modern technology has its pros and cons. On the one hand, it facilitates our lives by producing a great range of useful things, so that we can concentrate on the decision-making and entertain ourselves. On the other hand, we are surrounded by unemployed people, stressfulness and contamination.

Bearing all of the above mentioned in mind, I believe the world is a better place to live due to the advanced technology; however, we just have to not give it a worse use.
