Hi everybpody! Do words Halt and Stop mean the same?

They mean roughly the same but ‘halt’ suggests something more violent/dramatic.

I think “halt” and “stop” mean the same. For me, “halt” seems like a word used more in some places or some older people while “stop” is more commonly used.

I’m with Alan on this one. Usage of the two words has nothing to do with age. When I imagine somenone shouting, “Stop!” I picture an ordinary person. When I picture someone shouting, “Halt!” I imagine him in a military or police uniform.
