Groups or organizations are an important part of some people’s lives.
Why are groups or organizations important to people? Use specific
reasons and examples to explain your answer.
Indeed, groups and organizations play an important role in our lives. Belonging to a group and being an active member of a team not only provide satisfactory feeling for many, but also help people achieve their goals. Also, during our course of lives it is inevitable to avoid to be related to a group or an organization.
In the followings, I will discuss the reason and benefits of belonging to a team.
To begin with, people are social animals. Groups play an essential role in the process of socialization, from early childhood to adult age. Right after we were born we belong to the most important group, its name is family. Family teaches us how to behave and how to deal with persons surrounding us. This socialization process continues throughout our lives. In high school we might belong to a study groups, in university we might participate in research projects, after university we start to work and belong to a company and this list could be continued until the end of our lives.

Second, taking part in group activities can be beneficial for us. While we are in a group we can gain information that we could not acquire individually. A group can share information and help its members to achieve certain goals. For example, a student alone can not gain as much information as he could gain in actively taking part in a group in which everyone’s purpose is to improve his or her knowledge in a certain field. By sharing information and encouraging each other to perform better, group members will improve their performance.
Third, fighting alone is rarely successful. Even the most individualistic persons can not reach their goal without cooperating with others or taking part in a group. The smartest researcher cannot reach its goal, because he needs to cooperate with others to get his project done. The researcher has to get money for his project and has to deal with people who contribute toward the success of his project. Furthermore, activities that seem to be very individualistic require lot of team work. For example, a cyclist who competes alone in a long race, such as Tour de France, work in groups, because members of the team can protect the best racers from wind or can dictate tempo for the best racers to enhance their performance. Here, a racer working in a group has significant advantage against the racer who is not supported by anyone.
Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that some kind of organization can be very influential on people in a negative sense. Look at some of the religious organization that exploits the sentimental feelings and the weaknesses of its members or consider some kinds of pyramid systems where only the upper layer of the pyramid will benefit from the organization. So, groups can be used fraudulently as well. People should be on the look out to which organization they join.
In conclusion, groups are the cornerstone of our human society, even for people who tend to be very individualistic. From the beginning of our human society groups have been playing a crucial role in human development and organizations in different form are present from our birth until our death. The question is how good we can use the opportunity given by groups and organizations.
