I want to ask what the structure" fail to do something " means?my teacher says it doesn’t mean “failure to do something”.What is other meaning?help me please.thank you
fail to do something - have not done it.
Fail - 3: to leave undone : neglect
merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fail
He who fails to plan, plans to fail.
A common phrase I’ve known is fail to reach an agreement
that means parties do not together agree to come up with an agreement among them.
Can we really use a phrase like “failure to do something”? I understand that “failure” is a noun, is it not? If we can, please, can anyone give an example, please? I failed to find one
Hi Jimwth,
I would suggest it is used mainly in official notices/documents along these lines:
Failure to complete the form before departure may result in your booking being delayed.
It is stated quite clearly in the regulations that failure to stop at the halt sign will incur a heavy penalty.

Hi Jimwth,
I would say that the sentences I gave above could also be expressed with the verb ‘fail’ as in:
If you fail to complete the form before departure, this may result in …
It is stated quite clearly in the regulations that if you fail to stop at the halt sign, you will incur a heavy penalty.

Ok, thanks again, Mr. Alan!
