Grammar/ Idioms: Every other day... etc. Professionals, help me, please

Hi all of you,

Are the following sentences and their meanings correct?

  • I want you to visit your grandmother every other day. ( = meaning I want you to visit her on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday).

  • We visit our grandmother every other week. (= meaning we visit her two times a month, since a month usually has four weeks).

  • I usually save some money to take a real vacation every other year. ( = meaning, the second year I take my vacation).

  • The government changes every five years. (= meaning, there’s a new election after five years).

  • Check up on him every two hours. (= meaning, e.g.: a doctor to a nurse, ordering her to check up on a patient after every two hours until the doctor says she can stop doing that)

I would like to know your opinion. Am I right or wrong? Please help!

Do you have other examples about this topic?

Thanks

  • I want you to visit your grandmother every other day. ( = meaning I want you to visit her on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday).
It means you have to leave a day in between, but the pattern should continue into the following week where you would be visiting on other days, so it depends on which day is the first day. I want you to visit her on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday. Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, etc…

  • We visit our grandmother every other week. (= meaning we visit her two times a month, since a month usually has four weeks).
A month sometimes has five weeks, so there may ocassionally be three visits in a month, but generally that is correct. There are two weeks between each visit.

  • I usually save some money to take a real vacation every other year. ( = meaning, the second year I take my vacation).
    yes

  • The government changes every five years. (= meaning, there’s a new election after five years).
Usually there’s a new election just before five years, not just after five years. The change has to be made within that period. In most cases, ‘every five years’ means at some point in the fifth year.

  • Check up on him every two hours. (= meaning, e.g.: a doctor to a nurse, ordering her to check up on a patient after every two hours until the doctor says she can stop doing that)
That is usually the scenario for ‘check up’, yes. ‘Check on him every two hours’ (without the ‘up’) could include other scenarios, for example: a boss to a manager about a new employee.

hi Iam azam . I go to collage every day but I go to swimming pool every other days, I go to trip every other year

Does “every other day” mean ‘every alternate day’?

Yes, Hanifasmm.
