Graduating to the Big Leagues

Hi all,

In a newspaper, I found the heading “Graduating to the Big Leagues” for an article about a baseball player who is going to join a pro base ball team after graduating university. My dictionary says “graduate to” means “start doing something that is bigger, better, or more important.”
Does the “graduate” of this heading pun on words, graduate from university and start playing for a pro team?

Any of your comments would be very much appreciated!

Hi,

‘Graduate’ as a verb can mean achieving an academic qualification and it can also mean move a step up/higher in your life/career.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for the reply!

Does that mean the “graduate” of this sentence is used for a double meaning?

Hi,

It could well be but I don’t think so.
