God vs godness

Dear teachers,

Please read:

1.Thanks God! It’s Friday!
2.Thanks Godness! It’s Friday!

Are they the same meaning? If no (or yes), what is the difference in meaning btw “god” and “godness”? (in this case)

Thanks
Quoc

The corrected expressions (and spelling) are:

1.Thank God it’s Friday!
2.Thank goodness it’s Friday!

The two sentences mean the same thing and are often referred to simply as TGIF.

Thanks, Amy!

How would they look if I put a comma after God or goodness?

1- Thank God, it is Sunday!

That means God and goodness refer to the same thing? If not, please explain me why God and goodness refer to the different things but the meaning of (1) and (2)is the same?

Quoc

Hello, anybody there?

Tom

Hi Tom

I’d say the only good possible alternative would be to do what Quoc initially did (i.e., an exclamatory sentence Thank God! followed by It’s Friday.)

I’d say the sentence is almost always written this way:
Thank God it’s Friday. Why start adding commas where none is needed?

Hi Quoc

It really serves no useful purpose to take standard expressions apart and analyze the individual words. You should learn idioms and standard expressions as a whole.

God and goodness have similar meanings in that God is often defined as a representation of all that is good.

Hmm. In my first language we’d also put comma there…
always.
