"go on a picnic" or "go for a picnic"?

HI everyone,

I’m confused between using “go on a picnic” and “go for a picnic”. Are they difference or the same?

Many thanks,

.
Same meaning. I choose ‘on’.

Hi Ann,

‘On a picnic’ describes the actual experience of actually taking a picnic in the same way as ‘on a holiday’ describes the actual holidaying. '‘For a picnic’ describes the purpose of going out and the same applies to ‘for a holiday’.

Would you say that most people have that distinction in mind when they speak?
