Hi Pupil,

This expression is used as follows: You don’t stand a ghost of a chance of getting that job - and it means you have no chance at all of getting that job.

Alan

I don’t get it: ’ You don’t stand’
Thanks

Hi Pupil,

Let me try again. You don’t stand a chance of doing something means you don’t have the possibilty of doing something because you are not capable of doing it.

Alan

Stand means have here. Is it so?
I didn’t know that ‘stand’ can replace ‘have’

many thanks
Pupil.
