Full stop and the term "dot"

Hi All,

I work with computers and I offen have to use such code like 12.161.26.79 and I say always twelf dot

Is that right and if yes when can I use full stop?
Only when talking about grammatic and in all other case dot should be used?

You’re quite right, Attila. The term ‘dot’ is most commonly used in computing as a spoken form of ‘full stop/stop/period’.

Hi Attila

I’d also say you should use “dot” for things like IP and email addresses.

BUT if you’re talking about quantities, then you should use “point
4.5 gigabytes = “four point five gigabytes”
