from/since

  1. Lucy has been absent from Monday?
1a. Lucy has been absent since Monday?
  2. I have liked reading from childhood.
2a. I have liked reading since childhood.
  3. I have worked here from 2000 till now
3a. I have worked here since from 2000.
    Please check and correct them.
    Thanks.

We use ‘since’ to mean ‘from’. ‘Till now’ is redundant. Close the sentences with a period.
Lucy has been absent since Monday.
I have worked here since 2000.

Also:
I have liked reading since childhood.
is preferable to
I have liked reading from childhood. <-- To accept this at all, I have to change ‘childhood’ in my mind to ‘I have liked reading from the time that I was a child.’

‘from’ is not the best option in any of those.

1a and 2a are correct.
2 and 3 are just about passable.
1 and 3a are incorrect.

Hi

Shortly say, we can use since( from past to present action.)
For example, I have been learning English through ETN since 2009
I have not seen you since yesterday.
He has been browsing the internet since childhood.
I have known him since I joined here.
I have to work hard from to-day.

Thank you

S.Shanthi

In short say, we can use ‘since’ (from past to present action.)

I have been learning English through ETN since 2009 (OK)
I have not seen you since yesterday. (OK)
He has been browsing the internet since childhood. (‘he was a child’ would be better)
I have known him since I joined here. (OK)
I have to work hard from today. (OK)

Thank you Sir for your corrections. When we/I make mistakes unknowingly/knowingly it should be
corrected by you or language coach, it will be helpful to us and we should see that it should not be repeated again in future

Thank you

S.Shanthi

Hello, Shanthi
Your name indicates that you are, most probably, an Indian. If so, why don’t you indicate your location as INDIA?

There is no rule which states anyone has to provide their location, Anglophile.

Hello Sir,

My name indicates that I am an Indian, what does my written English indicate sir?
My written English itself indicates that I am from India, then why do you want to mention my location (India). I don’t like to mention my location in my profile.

Thank you

S.Shanthi

You don’t have to make any changes to your profile, S Shanthi.
Please don’t worry about stating your location.

Thank you, Shanthi. My guess was correct. Your written English indicates that you have a good command of the language. (Written English cannot always suggest one’s nationality, though).
You needn’t mention your location at all, for it is only optional. Further, Indians can also remain located anywhere.
I only made a suggestion. Please forget about it.

Thank you Sir, I will not mention my country name in profile, as I don’t want to different
from other countries. Secondly no one writings will describe the nationality unless we mention that.

Thank you

S.Shanthi

Hi

I couldn’t send any post on the forum, what is this? I don’'t understand. I have back come to this forum only after getting your permission, then how my post gets disappeared on clicking send message. Please let me know the reason, as I have got lot others work to, I cannot waste my time like this.

Thank you

S.Shanthi

You did not need anyone’s permission to return to the forum. There are some ongoing technical problems with the site, which is what you seem to have experienced earlier. No one is trying to waste your time and nobody is deliberately blocking your posts. We all have the same problems now and again.

Thank you for your reply Madam.

S.Shanthi

For many people “where someone is from” is a way to qualify he or she.
I see it when I travel to other locations.

I think you might be confused about that. I don’t see how it is possible to qualify whether someone is male or female by location.

I too agree with Beeesnees Madam. Stating Location in profile is not at all necessary to anyone, since no one is stating current location in the Profile. More over location will not qualify a person, it will only give idea about their place (where they live/from where.)

Thank you

S.Shanthi

I mean If I tell or write my location, people will prejudge how I am. I don’t mean you or other respected trainer will do so but some other people.
For example their attitude to someone from Britain is different from that to someone from Asia.

Hi Beeesnees Madam,

I have receiving sms/e.mails from Coca-U.K. that My phone & e.mails have won the price worthy R$5,000,00 British pounds and it has asked me to complete full details about name and bank account. My husband is shouting at me, you just delete the message.
I have deleted two three times, still it is coming. Please advise me how to stop this type of message.

A line in reply about the same is appreciated.

Thank you

S.Shanthi
