Formal letter: give a waiver

Hi

Could you please tell me if you found the following sentence correct and natural? [from a book of FORMAL LETTERS by an Indian author]

Q1- Is the sentence grammatically correct?
Q2- Is grant a waiver a coinage or a standard idiom?

Tom

.
Grant a waiver sounds reasonable. Indian English is more overtly polite in tone than BrE or AmE, and therefore often sounds overdone to Western ears.
.

Thanks Mr. Micawber

So the sentence is grammatically correct???

Tom

.
Yes. Commencing is misspelled.
.

Could I request a native speaker to write it for me?

Is grant a waiver a set phrase?

Tom

Mr. M. is indeed a native speaker. Do you want it to sound “American” with our customary brusqueness?
Yes, grant a waiver, or be granted a waiver, are standard phrases.

Apparently I could not get my message across, Barbara.

Sorry! Please see my original.

My request:

I just want to know how a native speaker would write it.

Thanks a lot,

Tom

.
One way I might write it:

This is to request a waiver from your IT course as of 29 October.
