Expression: "You become so depressed that everything goes..."

Hi

Could you please explain this sentence to me–especially the red part?

Tom

‘Recession’ as I’m sure you know, Tom is a word commonly used in the world of finance indicating a downturn in economic prosperity. What is interesting in your expression is that whereas financial language often chooses metaphors from many areas totally unrelated to finance, here we have an example where a ‘finance’ word is used in an entirely unrelated financial matter. To come to the point, ‘everything goes into recession’ suggests to me is that your whole life goes from bad to worse and you can’t see any hope in any part of your daily activities.
