Expression: "Flashing the headlights of a car..."

Some hoodlums flash the headlights of a car in people’s eyes to irritate them i.e turn them off and on very quickly.

So, would you say flashing headlights is a correct and natural expresssion?

Many thanks,

Hello Tom,

Usually, you flash your headlights; the “car” is implicit. (Flashing headlights" is fine.)

Best wishes,

Thanks, MrP

Hi Tom

You might hear something like this, for example:

  • He is an obnoxious driver. One of his most annoying and dangerous habits is tailgating the car in front of him and repeatedly flashing his lights.
