    Interview with spelling

Good morning Wolfgang,

Thank you very much for your first report which looks very good. Please note the difference between ‘tires’ and ‘tired’. Both words look very similar but can have completely different meanings. Also, you may want to add some keywords describing your professional background as well as the jobs of the rest of the group.

Today it will be Alexandra’s turn to take the minutes, collect the vocabulary and compose the report so I’d like to ask you to assist her with these jobs.

Many thanks,
Torsten[YSaerTTEW443543]

Dear Mr Daerr,

As requested, I’ve registered on the forum.

I would be very interested in teaching from Monday. What information do you need ?

I can be contacted on 015 223 684 573, or at johnstonoliver at hotmail.com.

Warm Regards,

Oliver Johnston

Dear Oliver,

Thanks a lot for registering on the forum. Have you had time to read through the reports of the current course as well as the previous ones?[YSaerTTEW443543]

TOEIC short conversations: A colleague asks how to submit vacation requests.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Dear Torsten,

Yes, I’ve had a thorough look over the notes from the previous teaching sessions.

One thing I’m wondering, which I’ve not been able to determine from the notes, but is there a set curriculum and are all teaching materials provided?

Warm Regards,

Oliver Johnston

Dear Torsten,

I’ve read through all of the posts for the class, including the posts by the students regarding topics covered, new vocabulary, etc… I was unable to determine if there was a particular course book that they’re using (the previous classes seemed to have a course book). If there is a book, could you please let me know which one so I can get a copy of it. I’ve got materials to use if needed. Also, is there a copy machine available, or should I copy any additional materials I might need before I go? From the names I’ve jotted down, there are ten people in the class. Is this correct?

Sorry for all the questions.

Kind regards,

Sheila Grace

Dear Oliver and Sheila,

Yes there are ten people in the group and we are using Business Basics, New Edition, Oxford University Press as our course book. More details soon. Many thanks, Torsten[YSaerTTEW443543]

TOEIC short conversations: A customer books a flight to Tokyo.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Dear Torsten,

I am interested in this course, and would be available starting Monday. I have read through all the material I could find on this forum about the course, but still have a few questions.

When you say the pay is 130EU/day including travel and accommodations, does that mean that we pay for travel and accommodations out of this salary, or that they will be covered by your company? I just want to be clear.

I also could not find any information about accommodations.

Lastly, is there a course book? And are we expected to bring any prepared materials?

Thanks, and I look forward to working with you all.

Laurenne

Dear trainers,
in my understanding the most important thing in this Nordhausen group is to handle the big heterogenity of the course participants.
We should be very flexible to motivate all learners to find the best way of a target oriented learning, a new approach in helping each others, to document the course development, to apply the very different learning / teaching methods very creatively ( ex cathedra teaching, group work, project learning in order to have more time to work individually with the beginners, station learning, partnering, dialogues, individual coaching etc.pp. ).
A great opportunity in Nordhausen is to use the Internet and our web based English-test.net system.
I am absolutely sure that we all shall manage to generate an excellent learning atmosphere as the basic precondition for a succesful course.
Many thanks for your great contribution.
Best regards
Uli.

Hi Uli, Torsten.

Thank you for the information.

Uli,

You suggested using the Internet and English-test.net which is a great idea. Do the students have access to computers in the classroom or on-site?

Torsten,

Should I purchase a copy of the course book? Also, which dates would you like me to teach? I see Oliver is keen to go as well and you may have other teachers lined-up, too. For now, I’m flexible and available through April. Also, I have made a reservation at the Appart Zentral Nordhausen through the 17th of February (minus the weekend of Feb 5th). If another teacher goes during this time, they could easily take that reservation. It’s 28 euros per night,or 175 per week.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Sheila

Thorsten,

Hi I am very interested in this role. Can you please contact me to discuss it further.

Regard

Lyneham

Quite new as I am
I really don’t know if I should join the posts about this subject already. But I am hoping to get a chance to teach, too, and so I would say, if there’s no certain book necessary, it doesn’t matter. Especially for me. I have read the topics the course is about, and I would always “go from near to further”.
That means, people should first learn to say who they are, where they are living and so on, some important facts of their identity, and then later talk about their work, skills, hobbies, wishes, visions, views of life and so an. Then at last you only need to add some vocabulary of economy and business.
How to teach all these things? The methods depend on the kind of people who want to learn, I would say, and without some creativity we could not carry it out. The bigger the group the more difficult the possibilites of a good learning for each one of them. It’s a challenge, all the time.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hello everyone,

Thank you all so much for all your responses, it’s great to see you have such an interest in working with us. Since this particular Nordhausen job is of such short notice it’s probably best if Brian Trenton from Ireland takes it. Brian has family in Nordhausen so accommodation and food is free for him. Yes, with any government (Arbeitsagentur) funded we get paid for the training itself only. They never cover any additional costs for accommodation or travel because they want to employ local trainers.

As for access to the Internet, yes every group member has got a laptop which they can use any time to look up words or other information. Today I introduced them to english-test.net and everyone tried out some of the materials. I explained the main elements: the fee email English course, the tests, especially the TOEIC listening comprehension ones, the progress report and of course, the forum.

The trainer also has a copy of Business Basics, New Edition along with a copy of both audio CD’s and other audio materials. In addition, the trainer has a laptop and active speakers as well as a projector which you can get from the staff.

So far we have covered the first two chapters of Business Basics, please review all the grammar and vocabulary items and make sure the three beginners can go slower. I also showed the beginners www.ego4u.de which has lots of explanations in German to make them feel more comfortable.

Oh, there is something else: In addtion to the 8 units from 7:30 am to 3pm there is a new course every Monday and Wednesday from 5 pm until 7:15 pm. The course starts this Monday and so far there are 5 people. You can use the same book, the same room and equipment with them.

For those of you who won’t be doing the Nordhausen job right now, please take a look at the other jobs we have (Havelberg, Moenchengladbach, etc) since we really want to work with you and new jobs come up constantly.

More soon,
Many thanks
