Yes, yesterday we tasted and tested a variety of new bakery products all of which we can recommend to any company that is in the cake industry. The cake I liked most was the ‘Fantakuchen’ which is interesting also from a linguistic point of view because it features the word ‘Fanta’ which is a German brand owned by the Coca Cola company.

For those of you interested in the products we tasted, here are some pictures…

WOW! Lucky you! That’s definitely the way you should study! Those cakes look amazing! I’m sure you enjoyed them! There’s only one thing I cannot understand…HOW on earth could you sit there, having several pictures taken, without digging in  :stuck_out_tongue: ?
Have a lovely weekend!

Well, as you can see in the picture below we were not the only ones you enjoyed the cakes…

I have to admit that I have a sweet tooth - I bet no one had to tell you to smile for the camera to have those particular pictures taken. The cakes look amazing. What sort of analysis did you have to undertake? Were you just basing it on taste or did you have to weigh up factors such as calorific value?

You didn’t happen to find one that tasted sumptuous but had absolutely no calorific value did you? A shrewd business person could make a fortune with a cake like that.

Hallo everybody,

here are the first transcribed lines of our script: I’ve listened this comedy (?) twenty or thirty times and I hope my transcript is ok. As you know I don’t like this kind of English comedy, because the text is typically English and a little bit tough, so I have to say. Anyway, I am going to continue this assignment tomorrow if I have time … So, and now the result of this challenge:

Hello, this is Bell’s in the Batfry, episode 119. I’m John Bell and I’m carrying this portable recorder I dashed to the airport here. I’ve been having some difficulties use for scheduling for Bell’s in the Batfry and I think I need some help therefore I’ve decided to contract a larger easter conglomerate and see if they would like to have us join. Well actually that’s all I can tell you right now it’s all top secret and I … Hold line just a second … Hello Ms. Shmackleheimer … Ms. Ladey Shmackleheimer, yes, I know who you are. I’m at the airport now … aha … and I’ll be getting on the plane in just a few minutes and I need to go to the ticket booth at first … aha … Why did you call?..So I can have somebody to explain this to the listeners. Where do you staying which going on. I have that covered, Ms. … I’m alright. … Yes … Okay, ya, ya … Your way is better. Thank you, Ms. … Oh, on the phone… on the phone ya …It seems to be working fine. It’s really the first time I’ve used it …

I wish you all a good start in the new week and I hope you have fun, if only in a group of four and without me …
Greetings
Wolfgang

That’s a fantastic start, Wolfgang. You have sorted out all the basics and have the general meaning so there is fluency in the piece.
A few minor corrections are needed, but you did really well.

as I dash through the airport here…
some difficulties with scheduling…
a large Eastern conglomerate…
Hold on just a second…
Ms. Sadie Shmackleheimer…
I need to go to the ticket booth first…
So I could have somebody to explain this to, so the listeners will understand what’s going on…
Your way was better…
Oh, the phone? the phone, yeah…

Hello everybody,
now I have a little bit time and are able to write some sentences to you. I’m a little bit sad that I can’t participate in our course for the next two or three days. Until now I was on the way to help and to support my wife who is lying in bed by the side of me. So I’ll continue my English lesson here in my home office, the former room of our youngest daughter. Maybe I am going to write some comments or notes about an old Beatles’ song. This homework of the last week I haven’t completed yet.
I would be delighted to hear from you - comments, hints to my mistakes and, and, and …
With best wishes and regards
Wolfgang

As you know I’m a Beatles‘ fan since I was 16 years old and so it gives me pleasure to write some notes on Beatles‘ songs. There are differences of opinion who is the real singer-songwriter – John Lennon or Paul McCartney. In my opinion the critics couldn’t clear up this question until now and for me they both have written music history and wonderful songs.

I don’t know whether it’s a good idea to write some remarks about Beatles‘ songs I like. I want to concentrate on titles are written or composed at a time when the young generation primarily in the Western world was addicted to drugs, LSD, hash and other illicit drugs, in most cases soft drugs.

I want to start with the song „Nowhere Man“ first released in December 1965 and I don’t reckon that everyone knows this song and therefore here the link

youtube.com/watch?v=hfWEPu0w-7w

The lyrics are simple and in my view well-suited for our group. By the way a good example of the usage of „nowhere“, but also of „nobody“ and „somebody“ ….

He’s a real nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.

Doesn’t have a point of view,
Knows not where he’s going to,
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man, please listen,
You don’t know what you’re missing,
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command.

He’s as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?
Nowhere Man, don’t worry,
Take your time, don’t hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
Lend you a hand.

Doesn’t have a point of view,
Knows not where he’s going to,
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man, please listen,
You don’t know what you’re missing,
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command.

He’s a real Nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.

In my opinion this song is one of the first songs written under the influence of drugs. The cover of the LP and the title „Rubber Soul“ corroborate this belief. Another opinion we can find in articles about the history of the pop music and the influence of the Beatles, especially in the 60s.

Further particulars and thoughts in the next part. I hope I have enough time tomorrow in the late morning.

Hello Antje,

We can buy Fanta (a flavoured carbonated drink) in the UK. It has been sold in this country since I was a child and possibly a lot longer.
The most common flavour is orange, but lemon flavour is also sold. I know that other flavours, such as grape, can also be found in some countries, but it is only orange, lemon and a mixed red berry flavour that I have seen in Britain.

Fanta is a part of the Coca-Cola brand.
