English term for "Lassi"

Hi

In Pakistan and India when it is very, very hot, people drink Lassi, an Urdu language word. You just mix water and milk with some ice and sugar and Lassi is ready. It is supposed to kill heat. Is there any English term for it??

Hi Tom

The English language likes to adopt foreign words and terms in the original form.

.
As a matter of fact I have, Tom.

But I was introduced to it in Germany. In English it is spelled with a lower case ‘L’. In German it is spelled with a capital ‘L’.
.

The variety I’ve tried is ‘ayran’, a mixture of yoghurt (not milk), water and salt. Add to it some garlic, mint and chopped cucumber and you’ve got a great summer soup.
