drive vs take (Patrick drove/took his pregnant girlfriend to hospital.)

Hello, I’d like to ask if take and drive are interchangeable in these sorts of sentences.
I mean Patrick used a car in both cases.

  1. Patrick drove his pregnant girlfriend to hospital.

  2. Patrick took his pregnant girlfriend to hospital.

Thank you in advance.

They are the same. Number one is more specific, of course. This is UK usage (not that there is anything wrong with that), in the US we say “to the hospital”.
