dollars, pounds, but not yens ?

Hi everyone

I have a very simple question that came into my mind just now.

When you use money unit like dollar and pound, you use plural like dollars and pounds, but for foreign currency, you don’t use plural. You don’t say 100 yens, for example.
Is there any reason for it or is it just customary ?

Thank you in advance.

Beeesneees,

  1. Singular and plural for some currency like ‘yen’ are the same.
  2. Singular and plural for some currency like ‘yen’ is the same.
  3. Some currency like Japan’s ‘yen’ is the same for singular and plural.
    Please correct all.
    Thanks.

The singular and plural forms of some currencies, such as the yen, are the same.
Some currencies, like Japan’s yen, have the same word for the singular and plural forms.

Is it also correct to omit the word “forms” here?

Not unless the prior context has made it clear what you are speaking about. You could replace it with something else which fits, such as ‘words’.

Hi Canadian45 and Beeeneees

Thank you always to reply my questions.

Some currencies have both singular and plural forms and some are not. I got it. Thanks.

I probably should have written “Thank you for replying…” instead of “Thank you to reply”.

Such a difficult language to learn…
