Does your language have a surname that means 'drink water'?

I have noticed that probably every European language has a surname that means to drink water.

English: Drinkwater
German: Trinkwasser
Italian: Bevaqua
French: Boileau

Are there more?

hi Jamie,

besides Trinkwasser there is an artist named “Hundertwasser” = “Hundredwater” in English

I’ve heard of only one person in Bulgaria being named after something related to “water”.

That would be “Воденичаров” (read “Vodenicharov”). When you remove the “ов” suffix, you get “воденичар” (read “vodenichar”), which means “miller”.

In Polish You wont find this kind of surname.

In Armenian You won’t find surnames like that.

In my native language, there are no surnames like that.

But in Polish you will find surnames that mean “cabbage”, “stupid” and other interesting things.

And “drunk” for example (refering to the subject) Yes, we have lots of funny surnames.

Actually, yes.

Quite popular surname in Slovenia is “Vodopivec” which means “Water-drinker” (Vodo - water, Pivec - drinker). It is ranked as 112th most common surname in Slovenia (1245 people have it).

It’s interesting to see such a unnusual surname appears in so many langauges!
