Does this sentence sound natural to native speakers of English?

Hi there,

According to the Japanese Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in January, the country’s production and sales of vehicles declined by xx percent and xx percent month on month, respectively, and declined by xx percent and xx percent year on year respectively.

Does the sentence above sound natural to native speakers of English? Any suggestions or corrections would be appreciated.

As you are talking about ‘month on month’ and ‘year on year’, then it seems to me that ‘in January’ cannot work. Perhaps it should be ‘from January YYYY’.
