Hi everyone,
Do you use ‘What’s the matter?’ or ‘What’s matter’? Here, I am asking when you want to say “What happened?”.
I looked the online dictionary, and it is said ‘What’s the matter?’
Here is the reference, http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/what’s+the+matter
what’s the matter
What is the difficulty or problem? What troubles or ails you? For example, You look upset what’s the matter? or Can you tell me what’s the matter with my car? This idiom uses matter in the sense of “the essence of something,” in this case a problem. It was first recorded in 1469. Also see what’s with.
Also, I looked up the Youtube,
Here is the reference, Milo Greene - What's The Matter [Official Video] - YouTube
Milo Greene - What’s The Matter [Official Video] , like a song.
So I think that native speakers use "‘What’s the matter?’ ,but not ‘What’s matter?’
However, I can’t find out that people use “What is matter” for the situation, “What happended?”
Could you give some advice or your answers?
Thanks in advance.
