DK books are not only illustrative and comprehensive, but also cover catholic subjects.

I have two questions: First, is the correlative conjunction consistent? I am not sure whether “be” and “cover” are compatible. Second, someone pointed out that I shouldn’t use catholic because it is a religous word, related to Roman Catholic, but I doubt he didn’t know “catholic” can mean “diverse”!

The sentence is correct. As for the use of the word ‘catholic’ it’s confusing if the author wants to say ‘diverse’. So, if he means to say ‘diverse subjects’ he needs to write ‘diverse’ subjects’ in not ‘catholic subjects’.

Thank you. “catholic” seems to cause ambivalence and confusion easily.
