If you were to be at the roadside and a non native speaker comes to you and tells you to stand at the ‘divider’, where would you be?

Hope for your kind replies.

It sounds like a median. But why would anyone want you to stand on a median? If it’s the line separating the lanes, it’s equally odd and even dangerous. Both would place you in the middle of the road.

Hi Mordant,
Actually the word divider here is referred to the curb, sidewalk and pavement by some non native speakers here and I have to find out if the terms they use could be understood by other English learners. Obviously, the term divider here is wrongly used then by them.

Thanks, have a great day!
