Is there a difference between a bobcat and a tomcat?
Many thanks,

Hi Torsten,
I wonder what trick is behind this question.
From what I know a bobcat is besides a special sort/race of cats also a former name of a children´s toy or a construction engine used when erecting buildings.
On the other hand Tomcat is the special name of male cats but also that of some airplanes (war-jets) or of a special PC software.
I wonder what they might have in common unless both might name special sorts of cats.
Let´s see what interesting relation they also might have.
Regards
Michael
two different kind of cats, cat with a tail and without a tail?!
Tomcat has a tail
Bobcat has not a tail
right/wrong?!
Oh , I see, the one (Tomcat) can bite into its own tail i.e. means goes round in a circle (don´t come to an end) and the other one (Bobcat) immediately comes to the point (is straight ahead) never disturbed by its own tail?
Yes, there’s a considerable difference.
A tom cat is the name for an unneutered male cat, of the common feline, or domestic cat. (They’re still called domestic cats even if they’re feral). They’re found all over the world, and have a wide range of markings and coloring. These are the kinds of cats you might have in your house.
A bobcat is a different type of cat, from a different genus. They’re about twice as big as your regular domestic cat. They’re not domesticated, and only found in a range between southern Canada and northern Mexico. They’re all fairly similar in their markings, with a spotted coat. They’re a wild animal, not kept as pets.
Also, unlike the domestic cat, bobcats only have a short stub of a tail (hence the name ‘bob’ cat - if something’s bobbed, it’s cut short).
