Difference between 'pursuant to' and 'according to'

Can anyone explain me the difference between ‘pursuant to’ and ‘according to’ and on which situations can we use these words.

Very thanks to those who can reply

“pursuant to” is a less common and more formal and technical expression. It is most often used in official writing such as legal documents, where it typically appears in contexts such as “pursuant to section 13(b) of the agreement … blah blah”.

In everyday English, you will almost always want to use “according to” instead (e.g. “according to this article, an asteroid is going to just miss us”, “according to my father, I’m lazy”, etc.).

Thank you for this good informatin.
As a personal remark,I think formal expression in all European languages is close to the latin origin,we notice the same thing in French.
