Difference between "I live in Joburg" and "I'm living in joburg&qu

thank you for your quick response. i have a few more questions if you
could answer them considering the rules of grammer.

  1. what is the difference between “i live in Joburg” and “I’m living in joburg”.
  2. what’s the difference between " The room is too big" and “The room
    is very big”
  3. Why do you say “on” Christmas day but you say “at” Christmas
  • does this question have something to do with prepositions*
  1. why can’t you say " I’ve been knowing him for 2 years"
  2. why can’t you say “I’ve been studying English since 5years”
i think question 4 and 5 have to do with tenses but i am not sure
    how to explain why
    **

thank you

  1. I LIVE IN and I AM LIVING

I LIVE IN means that it is the truth that you lived in the place, you are living in the place and probably you will live in the place.

I AM LIVING means that currently you are living in the place, but not sure in the future.

  1. THE ROOM IS TOO BIG and THE ROOM IS VERY BIG

When you say THE ROOM IS TOO BIG, you don’t like the room.
When you say THE ROOM IS VERY BIG, you may like or dislike the room.

Compare these two sentences:
The room is too big for me to live in. I need a smaller one.
The room is very big. You will find it comfortable and can put your big furniture in it.

  1. KNOW or KNOWING?

KNOW is a static verb. You can’t use it in the progressive tense.

You have asked this along with others:“Why do you say “on” Christmas day but you say “at” Christmas”
‘On’ is used when you refer to a particular day. On Wednesday, on whitsunday etc.
'At’ is used to refer to the season. So ‘at Christmas’ means during the season in which Christmas occurs - a few days before, on and a few days after. best of luck, nanucbe
