According to the reading passage the design for Sydney Opera House selected in an international competition. The design submitted by Mr. Jorn Utzon was to be accepted highly because of its dramatic style.
The design and the structure of Sydney Opera House was according to the organic principles. The structure of the curved roof was look like a sailing ship on the water. It was fit with the environment situated in Bennelong Point.
In the structure the roof was revolutionary part and Utzon has worked many years on this structure. According to the example of the reading passage, to stabilize the 200 high feet shells was a serious challenge. The material like concrete was new at that time as well.
At the end of its completion, it was over budgeted. Mr. Jorn Utzone resigned the project. It had been under construction for 17 years. The material was too much expensive. Only roof material and ceramic tiles has much cost of the whole project.
