Derision means when someone or something is laughed at and considered stupid or of no value.
What is the part of speech of the underlined word above?
Hi,
‘Laugh at’ is the verb and ‘is laughed at’ is the present simple passive. ‘Laughed’ is the past participle of ‘laugh’.
Alan
I laugh.
Is this a correct sentence?
It’s a correct sentence that doesn’t make sense.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Why it does not make sense?
Your question should read: Why does it not make sense?
The sentence “I’m laughing” makes sense. “I laugh” doesn’t. Can you see why?[YSaerTTEW443543]

yes
Torsten, I think in the right context, “I laugh” can be a perfectly fine sentence.
“I am like most people throughout the world. I laugh. I cry. I love my mother. In many ways, our similarities vastly outnumber our differences.”
I agree, TJ. However, since Duet’s sentence didn’t have any context it didn’t make much sense.[YSaerTTEW443543]
