damage in

Hi, is is acceptable to use the preposition ‘in’ in the below sentence?

Results of the research revealed the degree of biological damage in books i.e. fungi and general destruction.

That is what I normally say!

Thank you!

I would use ‘to the books’ if you are referring to the damage to the books themselves, rather to writing about it within the books.

Beeesneees,
‘When I found the damage to my books, I was upset.’
Is this sentence OK?

Other than the fact that it would be more natural to use ‘When I found that my books had been damaged…’ it’s okay.

Yes, using “to my books” makes the damage much more general, not just to the clarity of the contents or any other quality of the books! Thank you Beees.
