Could we use elder as a noun?

Hi

Could we use elder as a noun? I would like to know if "elder to " could be used in any case. Do the following sentences sound OK?

1- You should not smoke if there is an elder to you around.
2- Since I am elder to you I think it is my duty to…

Thanks in advance

Tom

Hi Tom

Yes, elder is often used as a noun.
I can’t think of any examples where I would use elder to.

In your first sentence, I’m not quite sure what you want to say (exactly what status you want to give the “elder” person). I wouldn’t use “elder to”

I’d say sentence 2 this way: Since I am your elder, I think it is my duty to…
