conditional sentence ?

1a. Were you not here today, we would have been killed.
1b. If you were not here today, we would have been killed.
2a. Were we in America, we would have got better salary.
2b. If we were in America, we would have got better salary.
Are 1a and 2a sentences conditional?
Does 1a mean 1b and also 2a mean 2b?
Thanks.

They’re all conditional.
The pairs mean the same but in modern everyday use you would not generally see the (a) forms used.

Beeesneees,
‘Were Shakespeare to return today, he would be amazed to find his plays being studied in schools.’
For this sentence, can I replace with the following if-clause sentence?
‘If Shakespeare were to return today, he would be amazed to find his plays being studied in schools.’
Thanks.
