Comma before "while"

Hi all,

I have some doubts regarding the usage of comma before “while”.

Is it okay to place comma before any non-restrictive clause?

Take a look at these sentences-

  1. Jonathan was playing cars with Destiny in the family room floor while Carmen straightened up the clutter left by so many people.
  2. All the girls have the opportunity of going to college while the money is still there.

For the first one, it should be fine to place comma before “while” though not for the second one, as the second clause becomes important in that context, right?
