Why not: The coach is awaiting you.

I cannot see any grammatical reason for the prevalence of “awaits” over “is awaiting” in situations like this. I think it is just a convention. Sentences like “The coach awaits you” have a story-telling, old-fashioned or stock-phrase feel, or a humorous or facetious feel of being deliberately elaborate, compared to the plain “The coach is waiting for you”.

(“read” should be “ready”, I assume.)
