close vs near

hello,
Are these words interchangeable, please?
I was at the subway station when someone came to me and asked where a certain station was located.
I wanted to say that the other station was close to the one where we were.
I started my answer with ‘‘the station (that you are looking for) is very close to this one’’. Should I have said ''the station is very near to this one"?
Thanks.

.
In your sentences, the words are synonymous, but ‘near’ does not take ‘to’ in more careful English: ‘the station (that you are looking for) is very close to / near this one’.
.

If I used “next”, should I have said “…is next to this one”?
Thanks.
