    In this sentence is the word ‘clean’ an adjective or an adverb?
    My friend says it is adjective but I claim it is an adverb.
    Am I correct?

In grammar many (seemingly) adjectives play the role of adverbs, too. Words like slow, different, sweet, dear, clean, wide etc may be cited as examples. Perhaps when you say ‘Open your mouth wide’, you mean that the mouth should be opened in such a way that it becomes wide enough or that you expect the mouth to be wide open.
