Chokehold

Dear to whom it may concern,
Chokehold means [color=blue]choke•hold (chkhld)
n.
A restraining move in which one person seizes another around the neck in a tight grip,

Is it used in sport? Would you please explain it to me more?
With the best regard

It is used in wrestling.

It may also be used when two people are fighting aggressively outside a ‘sporting’ context. (for ecxample, a street brawl).

There is also a figurative, non-literal usage of the word.

You might note that ‘have someone in a stranglehold’ suggests in a figurative sense that you have someone under your control so that they cannot make a move.

You could say, for example, that the spammers have these forums in a chokehold (or stranglehold) at the moment.
