Change or balance

Which is more acceptable?
can i have my change please or can i have my balance please.

The two terms are different.

change - If you pay for something by cash, but you overpay because you do not have the correct amount, the difference between the cost and what you have paid is you change.
balance - If you have a financial account with an organisation, the total you have or owe is your balance.

If you ask for your change, you should be given money. If you ask for your balance, you should be told an amount.

I would use ‘in cash’ rather than ‘by cash’.

Thank you for your input. It’s nice to know that I still have a shadow.

You were such a timid little thing when you joined our site and now …

I also think that you don’t ‘pay by cash’. You pay ‘in cash’.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Or with cash, or using cash…
Plenty of choice, depending on many factors. Anyway, it doesn’t affect the original question.

It’s an interesting forum. Thank you all, for your contributions…
