Catch Me If You Can

“Catch Me If You Can” is a wonderful movie, was directed by one of the most famous director Steven Spielberg, who is a founder of DreamWorks Pictures in 1994. Leonardo DiCaprio played the role of a very bright fraud Frank and Tom Hanks performed in the role of the FBI agent Carl Hanratty. They are both successful stars in the worldwide. Roger Ebert reviewed Frank’s performance and said “DiCaprio, who in recent films has played dark and troubled characters, is breezy and charming here, playing a boy who discovers what he is good at, and does it.” This film is the most successful film in box office during Leonardo’s career and the total number is $351.1 million worldwide. Before this film, Leonardo has stared Jack Dawson in Titanic in 1997. Tom is the stars in the films of Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. Steven, Leonardo and Tom, forming a perfect combination, make sure the film is the most excellent one.

The movie tells us a biographical comedy story about Frank Abagnale Jr. Before being 19 year old, from 1964 to 1967, he has already got huge money about almost 4 million dollars from banks in 26 countries and all 50 states of American by making and using counterfeit checks. During that period, he has successfully done impersonations of a copilot of Pan American World Airways getting free flying up to tow million miles, a chief resident pedestrian at a Georgina hospital by claiming to have graduated from Harvard medical school and faking an diploma in that subject and an assistant attorney general for the state of Louisianan through passing the bar exam by only two-week preparation. At last, Frank was caught by Carl Hanratty, an FBI bank fraud agent. He was considered to be the boldest and youngest cheater in the USA’s history. The profoundly moving and meaningful plot is the end of this film. After Carl’s four-year effort and the remarkable ability of Frank, he was released from jail working in FBI bank fraud department to sever out the remainder of his sentence under Carl’s custody for helping to catch other check forgers. The Frank’s inventions of different type of special secure checks have been extensively used by banks and companies. For these work, Frank’s annual income is millions of dollars. Therefore, he finally found a right way to make money.

Watching this film did not make me feel frank is a criminal or bad guy; On the contrary, I really like him and admire what he have done. He has successfully forged thousands of checks and done something amazing like pretending to be a copilot and he always could find his way to escape from FBI’s arrests, which can prove that he is a brilliant fellow, but the best decision he have done is to stop doing those thing. During the period of working for FBI, Frank had a chance to go back his previous free life, but Frank gave up his greed and became a good and successful person at last.

Another really influential role is Carl Hanratty. He is a FBI agent, but he is more like a father to Frank who really cares about him and leads him to do right things. Being under arrest by Carl having chased Frank for three years is a kind of release. It means that Frank was released by Carl from cheating as a criminal to be himself who is a kind kid in his true nature. Without Carl, Frank could have a very bad ending, he might go back to his form job of cheating after serving out his sentence and then he would be caught and be sent to jail again, which could be a negative circle. Frank would have to spend most of his whole life in prison instead of designing secure checks and helping find out other forgers. And, the world could lose a very good film or model, which would tell people that it is never late to be a good guy.

I really like to recommend this film to every one, because it is really a good film being worth their while watching. It needs people to watch this movie several times to understand its profound meaning.
