here is a sentence: when In charge advised crew to suspend cabin service duties because of turbulence becoming severe, cabin crew engaged themselves in securing the aircraft leaving them little time to look to their own safety.

the suspend here means delay the service? is this word a formal or unformal?

‘Suspend’ in this sense means ‘halt’, ‘stop’ for a limited period until the weather is better.
