Can/Can't picture myself

Hi everyone

I can’t picture myself with no one but you.
(I can’t imagine myself with no one but you.)

How about
I (can) picture myself with no one but you.

Suppose I want to express my love, my feeling to my girlfriend. Which one would be greater ? Do they carry the same meaning ? (As I understand, the meanings are subtle nuance between 2 sentences)

To me, both sentences seem a little confusing. I think using a double negative is asking for trouble. Why not “I can’t picture myself with anyone but you.”

I agree with Luschen, Waiyin. Using a double negative means that you have actually said the exact opposite of what you wish to express.

Hi Bee and Luschen.

I am aware the double negative. In movie, some black people usually use it. “I ain’t do nothing, man” = I don’t do anything
I agree It’s not the reason we need to use it like them (I’m not racist, just because most of the time, I hear it from the black people in the movie).

The double negative quote, I took it from a song. So I am just wondering is it the same with the sentence I re-wrote below.
Ok, So let me put the sentence to the right way (Sorry, I did not mean to mislead you with the double negative).

I can’t picture myself with anyone but you.
I (can) picture myself with no one but you.

are they carry the same meaning ? I think they are the same (I think I am confused because of the double negative. I just re-write and the picture is clearer)

Both are fine and carry the same meaning. But the second looks more emphatic.

I didn’t mean to disparage the double negative so completely. I think it definitely has its place, in poetry and lyrics, and in conversation it can provide more stress to the speaker’s statement. I mean I don’t think the Rolling Stones would have been as successful if they sang “I cannot get any satisfaction.”

Still, we have to keep in mind that this is a forum for learners, so in that case avoiding the double negative is good advice.

Hi Anglophile and Luschen
Thank you for your help and advice.

It’s my pleasure, Waiyin.
