broken noun phrase

Are these sentences correct:
[color=red]1-They held up a stagecoach last month carrying a considerable amount of money.
[color=blue]2-They held up a stagecoach last month that was carrying a considerable amount of money.

Gratefully,
Navi

Number 1 sounds pretty bad to me - it really sounds like the robbers were the ones carrying the money. Another alternative would be “They held up a stagecoach carrying a considerable amount of money last month.”

For #2 I would prefer:

Last month they held up a stagecoach that was carrying a considerable amount of money.
