British/American English

  1. We will most likely(adv) see him later.(BE)
  2. We will likely(adv) see him later.(AE)
  3. He said that he would most likely(adv) run for President.(BE)
  4. He said that he would likely(adv) run for President.(AE)
  5. You will likely(adv) have trouble with the machine.(AE)
  6. You are likely(adj) to have trouble with the machine.(BE)
  7. You will very/quit/most likely(adv) have trouble with the machine.(BE)
    Are these sentences correct?

All the ones marked BE are OK in British English (apart from the typo in #7). I could not say for certain how natural they are in American English.

I think I do associate the versions marked AE more with American speakers, but not strongly so, and I would not be particularly surprised if a British person said them. Different people may have different opinions about this, and it’s even possible that these are standard patterns in some British dialects.

Could any American natives answer the above?
